On July 31st of odd-numbered years, your SLP license will expire. About two months before the expiration date a renewal license is sent to your e-mail address with instructions on how to process the online application in DELPROS. It is important to make sure the e-mail address on file with the Board is accurate as that is how all notices will be sent to you.
During the two-year renewal cycle, you are required to obtain 30 hours of continuing education (CE). If you’ve been licensed for less than a year or hold a temporary license there are no CE requirements. For those licensed for more than a year but less than two only 15 hours of CE is required. The one-time temporary license renewal fee is $65.
Continuing education is required since the field of speech-language pathology is continually introducing new philosophies and techniques to improve treatment. CE ensures SLPs are keeping their clinical skills updated to administer high-quality services. That’s why courses focus on enhancing clinical skills and professional growth.
Enhancement of your clinical skills would be in the areas of prevention, diagnosis, assessment, and treatment. Improving your professional growth means engaging in CE activities that allow you to stay on top of current trends in speech-language pathology or related fields. A minimum of 20 hours should be spent on clinical skill enhancement, while no more than 10 hours are spent in the area of professional growth.
Accepted CE activities include attending conferences, taking courses, participating in workshops, and any other Board-approved activities. Proof of completing CE only requires you to complete an attestation online.
During each renewal period the Board we’ll select licensees at random for a CE audit. Should you be one of the selected licensees you will need to submit verification of your hours within 20 days of receiving the notice of selection. Send in the following information:
Once the board determines your CE requirements have been met your license will remain valid. If it’s determined that your requirements have not been met you will be notified and may be subject to a hearing to discover if your noncompliance with the requirement was due to an extenuating circumstance.
