To renew licensure for Speech Language Pathology in Wisconsin, there are several requirements. Applicants must meet the continuing education requirements for licensure. Licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs) must complete a minimum of 20 hours of Board-approved continuing education per each “biennial” renewal period, or every other year; at least two of the continuing education hours must be ethics-related. All credit hours must be submitted via the online LicensE portal for approval license.wi.gov.
Continuing education should consist of 20 hours, including a minimum of 2 hours of ethics. Continuing education is offered through the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), Department of Public Instruction (DPI), International Hearing Society (IHS), or the National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences (NBC-HIS). Graduate courses from board-approved or ASHA recognized speech-language pathology programs can also be considered acceptable. Other continuing education courses must be approved by one of the previously listed organizations. Any earned credit hours must be submitted to the state board within 30 days immediately following completion of the course. Additional continuing education information can be found either on the ASHA website or on the state of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services website.
To renew licensure, applicants must pay a renewal fee of $60 by January 31st of every other year; if the payment is late, the fee is adjusted to $85. Payments can be made through the LicensE online portal. Payments can also be made by emailing the Renewal Staff at dspsrenewal@wisconsin.gov or calling 608-266-2112.
