What's Here? - Table of Contents
New Mexico has implemented an online renewal system to make the process easier for licensees. Speech-language pathologist (SLP) licenses are renewed on or before January 30th of every year. You are given a grace period which ends March 31st of the licensure year, but until it is renewed you cannot practice with an expired license.
The Board Requires each licensee to obtain 20 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. You can complete the 20 hours all in one year if you choose. Renewal notices are males 30 days prior to the license’s expiration date.
Activities sponsored by the New Mexico Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NMSHA) or the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), are approved by the Board. There are two categories of CE courses: provider-initiated and participant-initiated.
Provider-initiated courses typically provide instruction for groups and individual self-study. These could be seminars, conventions, self-study modules, or video conferences. Courses initiated by the participants are considered independent studies. Some examples are independent studies at universities, independent reading, or the publishing of scientific or clinical materials.
Renewals can be verified online through the Board’s portal. If you have any trouble with the process there is also a step-by-step guide for you to follow and a detailed FAQ page. The renewal fee is $200 and there is also a $10 application packet fee.
If you are a new licensee the number of CEO hours required for renewal may be prorated by the Board. if your license was issued with less than 12 months to go before it expires you’ll be required to earn one hour of CE for each month you are licensed.
