South Dakota Speech-Language Pathology Assistant License Reciprocity Process

Applicants for speech-language pathology assistants licensed in other states may obtain a license in South Dakota if they provide evidence of current licensure in a state with equivalent or higher standards, have not engaged in any behavior that warrants disciplinary action, or possess a valid Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA.

In addition, South Dakota is a member of the Audiology & Speech Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC). The ASLP-IC facilitates mutual recognition between member states and any prospective state that enacts legislation to join the Compact, enabling audiologists and SLPs to practice across borders. This arrangement benefits healthcare providers and their patients by expanding employment opportunities and enhancing access to care.
