Alabama Speech-Language Pathologist License Renewal Guide - 2024
AKA: Alabama Speech Therapist License Renewal
In Alabama, SLP licenses are renewed annually, with an expiration date of December 31st. For this reason, if you’re first licensed mid-year, you’ll still need to renew your license a few months later. You have the option to send in a paper renewal application, with a fee of $100, or apply online (the portal is only open during renewal season).
To qualify for renewal, you must complete 12 clock hours of continuing education. At least ten of these must be in your area of certification, and the other two can be on related topics such as how to run a practice or the latest changes in insurance. For each continuing education event, you need an attendance verification form. You’ll also list each of them on your renewal application.
Although ABESPA doesn’t require you to send in the verification forms every time, they do audit some applications each year. Therefore, it’s critical to keep those forms. If you can’t verify your CE, then you may face license suspension.
As you can see, the process to get your SLP license renewed in Alabama is relatively easy. Simply get your CE hours verified, then fill out a short form and pay the fee.
