Before you can confidently apply for license renewal, there are continuing education (CE) hours that must be obtained. In the two years before the renewal date, you need to complete 18 hours of clinical-related continuing education courses, 10 hours of nonclinical-related courses, and two hours of continuing education on medical error.
The Board defines clinical courses as those that impart new information, procedures, methods, or protocols to be used during direct assessments, treatments, diagnoses, and counseling sessions with patients.
Another way you can gain continuing education hours Is by presenting or moderating approved CE hours or instructing a graduate-level course. The maximum number of hours you can earn using either of these methods is five. You can earn another two hours participating in an unpaid directed clinical experience.
CE hours are your responsibility to track using the online system. If you need a list of the courses approved by the Board, you will find it here. Renewing your SLP license will take 7 to 10 business days. If you have any questions regarding your application or are unsure about your renewal status, contact the Board at info@floridasspeechaudiology.gov.
The Florida Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology requires licenses to be renewed online every two years. Ninety days before the license’s expiration date, you will be mailed a renewal notice. Licenses expire at midnight, Eastern Standard Time, on December 31st of the expiry year.
Once you navigate to the web page, you’ll enter your Personal Identifying Information (PII) and click the Login button. If your PII information doesn’t work, click “Other Login Option” and use your User ID and password to enter the account. You then confirm or update the email address for your MQA Services Account and click “Continue” to move to the next page.
Once you’re in the Dashboard, you will see a “Renew My License” option populate during the renewal period. If it is not there, simply check back at a later date, but it should be available no later than 90 days before the license expires.
The fee to keep your license active is $80. If you fail to renew the license, it will fall into the delinquent status and may be rendered null and void if it is not renewed before the current licensure cycle’s expiration date. Licenses that remain inactive for more than two back-to-back biennial licensure cycles may have to take a special purpose exam or complete other reactivation requirements outlined by the Board.
There are fee exemptions for those who volunteer in public schools for at least 80 hours each year. They may be able to have the renewal fee waived and have up to 25% of their continuing education hours waived.
If you are having trouble making a renewal payment online, you can print a copy of the application and mail it with a cashier’s check or money order to:
