Licenses must be renewed biennially and are no longer valid as of December 31st of the expiry year at midnight, Eastern Time. Renewal notices are sent to the mailing address on file 90 days before the expiration day, so be sure to keep yours updated.
Renewals can be submitted online, or you can print the online form out and mail it to:
Division of Medical Quality AssuranceIf you complete the renewal process online, you can pay the fee with a credit or debit card. Those mailing in the applications, be sure to make your money order or cashier’s check out to the Florida Department of Health. The renewal fee to remain active is $195. If you wait too long and don’t renew on time, you will be charged late fees bringing the total cost to $385.
Continuing education (C.E.) is an ongoing part of a licensed SLPA’s career. Innovative minds are always creating new technology to assist. Not to mention, new concepts and methods are introduced to improve patient diagnosis and treatment. All SLPAs must complete a minimum C.E. hour requirement and provide proof of its completion before having their license renewed.
Twenty hours is the minimum C.E. requirement, with 18 being clinically related and the other two in Medical Error. The Board provides a list of approved courses here. Any ASHA-approved courses will also be accepted.
You can also use the Board’s website to sign up for the tracking system. Choose from a free or subscription-based account to record your courses, educator’s information, and other verifying factors the Board needs.
