Unlike most other states, where you have to renew your license every two years, Louisiana requires you to renew it annually. Renewals must be submitted prior to June 30th every year, and applications must include the $65 fee.
Licenses sent in between July 1st and July 31st are considered delinquent and subject to a fee of $130 and an additional processing fee of $3. Licenses that lapse on August 1st must be reinstated by the board and are subject to the initial license fee.
On April 15th of each year, renewal notices are emailed to licensees. The applications are submitted online and take three to four weeks to process. Once the process is complete, you will be able to print an ID card directly from your online account dashboard.
The continuing education (CE) requirement for license renewal is a minimum of ten clock hours each year. Five of the CE hours have to be in educational activities directly related to speech-language pathology and enhance your knowledge and skills in that area.
The remaining five hours should be completed in an area related to speech-language pathology. Examples of related areas include record keeping, ethics, billing, supervision, and coding and reimbursement.
The Board audits license SLPs each year to ensure the proper CE requirements are being met. The selection is random, and if chosen, you will be notified by certified mail. You’ll be required to show proof of your CE hours between July 1st and June 30th of the fiscal year.
