Licenses expire biennially on January 31st of odd-numbered years. You must renew them through the online renewal portal, and since paper applications are no longer accepted you will have to upload any supporting documentation via the portal. The $55 renewal fee can be paid online with one of the accepted forms of payment (MasterCard, VISA, AMEX, and Discover).
Within the two years preceding the license expiration, you need to acquire 12 clock hours of continuing professional education (CPE) or professional activity to maintain licensure. The education or activities you participate in must be connected to the clinical application of speech-language pathology, go beyond entry-level professional training, and provide enhanced knowledge of the subject.
Approved activities include, but are not limited to, distance and on-site learning, academic courses related to speech-language pathology, ASHA-sponsored events, and webinars. You may also instruct a course or have an article about speech-language pathology published in a journal or magazine. At the end of each activity, you will receive a certificate of completion.
At the beginning of each renewal cycle, the Board randomly audits 10% of renewal applicants to ensure they are compliant with the CE requirements. Although you won’t have to turn in the certificates of completion each time you renew your license, you will have to hold on to the documents in case you are chosen for an audit.
Once the Board requests to view your CE information you have until February 28th of the renewal year to submit the proper paperwork.
