The Board will grant a speech-language pathology license or its renewal for two years, expiring on July 1, two years after issuance, unless suspended or revoked earlier. The license may be renewed every two years if the applicant meets the Act’s rules, regulations, and statutory requirements.
The Rhode Island Department of Health allows online license renewal. A biennial fee of $62.50 must be paid with each renewal application. If a licensee doesn’t renew their license by June 30th or a year later, they can still apply for renewal by applying along with the renewal fee and a late filing fee of $25.00.
In addition, every licensee practicing speech-language pathology within the state must complete at least 20 clock hours of continuing education within the two years before June 30th of even years and provide satisfactory evidence of completion to the Board.
To renew, showing proof of completing a minimum of 30 clock hours of continuing education within the designated time frame is mandatory. It is important to note that any remaining continuing education hours cannot be carried over to the next renewal period. However, the Board may consider waiving or reducing the requirement if one faces hardship or other exceptional circumstances.
If the Department requires no additional information for processing your renewal, it may take up to five business days for them to review your license renewal. Despite the automation of many aspects of license renewal through the online process, a manual review is still required to finalize the renewal process. If additional information is needed, the Department will contact you.
