The TDLR has set forth guidelines outlining the process for speech-language pathology assistants to seek renewal of their SLPA licenses following their expiration after two years. Applicants can renew their licenses using the online licensing system to complete and submit renewal forms. They must also pay a renewal fee of $100 for their speech-language pathology licensure. In case of online renewal is not feasible, applicants may request a paper renewal form via email.
To renew licensure, it is mandatory to fulfill all continuing education requirements before the license expires to avoid a late renewal fee. The continuing education requirements aim to improve and sustain the quality of services provided to the public by licensed speech-language pathologists, audiologists, speech-language pathology assistants, and audiology assistants.
For instance, an SLPA must complete 20 clock hours of continuing education, equivalent to 2 continuing education units. Two clock hours or 0.2 continuing education units must cover ethics.
